What are the benefits of regular pet grooming?
Aside from the improvements to your pet's style, comfort, and looks, regular pet grooming from a Thrive Pet Healthcare network clinic professional (or even pet grooming at home!) can have many benefits for your pet's life, including:
Promoting general cleanliness
Decreasing the possibility of many types of dermatological conditions
Addressing seasonal fur removal
Helping to spot potential health problems
Removing dead fur, dirt, and debris, making your pet more comfortable.
Your pet's grooming needs
If you have a dog, their unique grooming needs will depend on their coat type and general lifestyle. However, we typically recommend that dogs are fully groomed at least every 4-6 weeks to avoid painful matting of the coat, ear and/or skin infections, and parasite infestations
Between full-grooming sessions, regularly bathe your dog to keep your them feeling clean, fresh, and healthy. Your dog’s nails should also be trimmed at least every 4 weeks to reduce chances of nail-related injuries (see below for more details).
For cat’s, their nail care needs are a little more intensive than for dogs, but they do not require as close attention to bathing. Unless your cat’s fur is matted, dirt-filled, or infested with parasites, they typically won’t require full grooming sessions. However, many cat-parents decide to have their cats groomed to help reduce shedding, to keep their household more sanitary, or for aesthetic purposes.
If you ever have questions regarding your pet’s grooming needs, any of our talented pet groomers or local family veterinarians are happy to provide their professional advice!
